History
The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® was founded as the National Association of Real Estate Exchanges on May 12, 1908, at the YMCA Auditorium in Chicago, Il.
Annual Report
In 2005, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®' extraordinary membership gave generously in response to two natural disasters (South Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina); the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission called into question practices in the real estate industry; both the Midyear Meetings and the REALTORS® Conference broke attendance records, and the former featured an appearance by U.S. President George W. Bush; NAR Executive Vice President and CEO Terry McDermott retired, and NAR veteran Dale Stinton was selected as the new EVP and CEO.
Lobbying
RPAC is a separate entity that raises money for the political activities of NAR's Government Affairs division and disseminates contributions to congressional candidates. As one of the largest and most influential political action committees in the nation, RPAC is on target to raise a record $11,000,000 in the 2005-2006 election cycle. The national Trustees have budgeted for over $4 million in direct contributions to federal candidates with the remainder spent in a handful of highly competitive electoral races in support of candidates who have been champions of the REALTOR legislative agenda.
Research
NAR's Research Division analyzes the economic, policy and structural effects of changes in the real estate industry. It produces studies and statistics on topics affecting the practice of real estate and the ownership and management of real estate firms.
REALTORS® Conference & Expo
REALTORS® see their referrals and sales increase significantly from the networking and education they gain at the REALTORS® Conference & Expo, the industry's premier event. More than 20,000 real estate professionals and guests from around the world attend this yearly event to learn about industry trends, new technology, and innovative products and services.
